Dr. Perry was born in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to San Antonio, Texas with her family in her teens. She attended The University of Texas at San Antonio where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Perry graduated with her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. During her time at Harvard, Dr. Perry was awarded the Harvard Odontological Society Award for excellence in research and the Dr. Roy O. Greep Award for excellence in the basic sciences. Dr. Perry was also awarded a highly competitive fellowship from the National Institutes of Health for her doctoral research on mitochondrial diseases. After graduating from Harvard, Dr. Perry went on to complete a residency in the Advanced Education in General Dentistry at UCLA. Dr. Perry has published more than 20 papers in the fields of mitochondrial biology and neurodegenerative disorders and currently services as part-time faculty at the UCLA School of Dentistry. Dr. Perry holds membership with the American Dental Association and California Dental Association. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Perry enjoys hiking, yoga and spending time with her family.
